Simplify Your Life - Project 333

25 PIECES OF CLOTHING 3 PAIRS OF SHOES 2 BAGS

As you may already know I like to keep things simple.

I haven’t always been like that.
I used to have a messy room, a closet with doors that couldn’t close due to of the amount of clothing it had to hold. My drawers were full of notes, pens, hair bands, little things I couldn’t let go of. I just couldn’t let go.

As time went by I started to declutter. It was a huge mental challenge for me.
I have never fully grasped the purpose of decluttering, cleaning and organizing.
For me it seemed like a loop. It would always come back to the point from where it all started. Things would just keep accumulating.

Though I never truly had the drive to make a radical change, I always felt that deep inside my belongings were weighing me down.

In my late teens I have finally come to the conclusion that radical change is the only option, the only way there is to achieve something extraordinary.

I have started researching the process of decluttering.
While researching I never wanted to find a technique that would show me the most efficient way of cleaning. I wanted the clutter to be gone forever.

Then I have finally found the Konmari-Method of tidying.
It has literally changed my life.
But I’ll keep that story for another time.

PROJECT 333

Fast forward to today.
I have minimized most of my possessions. I am still in the process of minimizing and downsizing. But the reason that I am writing this today is that I had a major breakthrough. As you may know I am a big fan of challenges. So I have been playing with the thought of doing the Project 333  for about a year now.

The idea behind Project 333 is very simple:

  • You wear 33 pieces of clothing for the next 3 months.

  • All clothing, accessories, jewellery, outerwear and shoes count.

  • Exceptions include: a sentimental piece of jewellery that you wear every day, underwear, sleep wear, in-home lounge wear, and workout clothing.

Yesterday I stopped playing and jumped right into it. Finally.

The process of decluttering itself was fairly easy since I didn’t own that much clothes in the first place. But the result was very surprising to me nevertheless.

  1. Counting everything I am under the limit of 33 with only 25 pieces of clothing.

  2. I kept only the clothes that I love very much. And even though my closet has a variety of colors, I realized that I wear a certain color palette.

  3. All the clothes I kept – match!

Only one day has passed.
It was a liberating feeling to stand in front of the closet in the morning and just grab something. No wasted time, no worries.
This is what I was always striving for.
And I am very excited to see how it goes.

CHALLENGE YOURSELF

If you are into minimalism or just interested in downsizing your closet.
Try and challenge yourself. This challenge is not made for suffering, so you can always change it up according to your needs and daily requirements.
Or you can just quit anytime if you feel like it’s not enriching your life.

But if you see the fun in it and if you felt any (positive) itch while reading it,
I challenge you to try it!
